This study aims to find out how to improve problem based learning (PBL) learning models on students' critical thinking skills, and to determine the effect of problem based learning (PBL) learning models on students' critical thinking abilities. The type of research used in this study was a quasi-experimental design, the design used in this study was a nonequivalent control group design. This study used pre-test before being given treatment (prestest) and post-test after being given treatment (posttest). Data collection in this study used essay test questions which totaled 8 questions. The results showed that there was an increase in student learning outcomes in the average value after being treated in each class, it was 64.67 in the control class while in the experimental class it was 76.95. The average value of N Gain in the control class is 0.25 while in the experimental class it is 0.51. The category of the average N Gain value in the control class is low and the category of the average N Gain value in the experimental class is medium. The results of the data collected using t-test analysis at a significant level α = 0.05. From the results of data processing, it turns out that p < α, namely p (< α (0.05) so that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. This study shows that there is a significant influence of the problem-based learning (PBL) learning model on students' critical thinking abilities.
