The thesis is a student’s highest work that marks the achievement of a bachelor’s degree. The process of preparing a thesis often causes anxiety and stress which is triggered by several factors, both internal and external, such as procrastination, unclear goals, lack of self-confidence, a non-conducive environment, and personal problems. The aim of this research is to identify the causes of student anxiety in writing their their theses and test the effectiveness of cognitive approach by collecting data through interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that students’ anxiety is caused by their own mindset so that students become pessimistic, not enthusiastic about writing their thesis, and their thoughts become confused, which has an impact on other people who become targets of anger. Cognitive restructuring techniques have proven effective in reducing student anxiety levels. This research concludes that it is important to understand the factors that trigger student anxiety in writing a thesis and the importance of interventions such as cognitive restructuring techniques to reduce this anxiety
