Abstract

The background of this research is that the school principal has not maximized the quality of teachers in SMA Negeri 12 Kota Jambi, so it is necessary to implement a leadership strategy by the principal as the leader of an educational institution to strive to improve teacher quality. Because teachers play an important role in improving the quality of education. The purpose of this study is to describe the principal's leadership strategy in improving teacher quality, knowing the obstacles faced in improving teacher quality, efforts to overcome obstacles in improving teacher quality in SMA Negeri 12 Kota Jambi. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity technique with triangulation technique. The results of this study indicate that in improving the quality of teachers it has not run optimally, it still needs to be improved including: The principal's leadership strategy through its role in this case needs to be improved again in terms of guidance where the training assignments are not evenly distributed, the implementation of coaching and supervision is not optimal and the school principal has not been maximized in providing innovation to teachers in carrying out their duties. Then there are obstacles faced by school principals, namely incomplete facilities and infrastructure and personal teachers which affect the improvement of teacher quality itself, such as difficulties in keeping up with technological developments. The researcher hopes that this research can provide input for school principals in improving teacher quality through leadership strategies.
